Nine new flights from the UK are being announced by easyJet and easyJet vacations.

The biggest airline in the UK, easyJet, has announced that starting next winter, it will operate nine new routes from the UK, including flights to a brand-new location in Iceland. On eight of the new routes, easyJet holidays will offer brand-new package vacations.

EasyJet will start twice-weekly flights from London Gatwick to Akureyri in North Iceland on October 31 and will then be the only UK carrier operating there this winter. The town, known as "The Capital of the North," is situated in North Iceland's Eyjafjörur fjord and is just a short drive from several of the country's top natural, cultural, and historical sites. While taking in the breathtaking scenery, visitors can engage in activities like whale watching, hiking, seeing the Northern Lights, and geothermal bathing.

The UK's fastest-growing vacation operator, easyJet holidays, is providing packages to the brand-new location that include flights, hotels, and 23kg of luggage. In the Akureyri area, the travel agency has put up for sale many brand-new hotels, including the 4* Hotel Aiglo by Keahotels, which has a pool overlooking fishing boats, and the 4* Myvatn, which is close to the Myvatn Nature Baths. Travellers can choose from a wide variety of excursions, including those offered by easyJet vacations' excursion partner, Musement, such as whale watching, waterfall exploration, and viewing the Northern Lights.

Prior to the establishment of a new base in Birmingham in the spring of 2019, the airline will continue to grow its network out of the midlands, with new routes beginning this winter to the French towns of Lyon and Paris starting on October 30. EasyJet holidays also offers city break packages.

This winter will see the launch of additional new routes to France, including those to Paris Charles de Gaulle from London Southend and a weekly service to Grenoble from Manchester. Additionally, new routes between Bristol and Marrakech and London Luton and Enfidha in Tunisia will give travellers in the south and south west two new options for winter sun destinations.

With two new routes to Glasgow and Belfast beginning service on October 29, 2023, easyJet will also provide passengers with even more options from Southampton, improving domestic connection from the area. These routes will each offer up to three weekly departures.

The introduction of even more new routes comes in response to easyJet's return to growth in the UK this summer, during which the airline will also operate its largest-ever UK summer flying programme, flying 8% more passengers than before the pandemic with over one million more seats during peak summer, in addition to 23 new routes from the UK.

The UK Country Manager for easyJet, Ali Gayward, stated:

"We are thrilled to be launching even more new routes and holidays from the UK across a fantastic range of destinations this winter, providing even more choice and variety for our customers, including flights and holidays to Akureyri in North Iceland for the first time, with a special route from the UK.

"EasyJet is proud to be the largest airline in the UK. The launch of these nine new routes demonstrates our confidence in the resilient strength of demand for travel in the UK, with customers choosing us for our trusted brand, unrivalled network, and great value fares. We can't wait to welcome more customers on board."

Visit North Iceland's Managing Director, rnheiur Jóhannsdóttir, said:

"We are pleased to formally welcome easyJet passengers to North Iceland, where they may partake in enchanted winter activities. The experiences they have will range from soothing geothermal spa visits to exhilarating super jeep trips, whale watching, and searching for the northern lights. Their days will be packed with exciting activities and peaceful moments in extraordinary nature.

"It has been a joy working with easyJet over the past few years to be ready for this new route. We now have the potential to open a new entryway to Iceland thanks to our close collaboration with our partners in North Iceland and the Nature Direct initiative. Customers of easyJet will touch down at Akureyri Airport, which is located in the heart of polar nature in North Iceland and is only 5 minutes from the town core.

EasyJet consumers will have a rare opportunity to visit Iceland's most well-liked winter resort thanks to this new route, which will revolutionise how the country's tourism industry evolves.

The largest airline in the UK, easyJet has carried more than 800 million passengers since its founding almost 30 years ago. It now serves 21 UK airports and offers more than 480 trips to more than 130 locations in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
