Because of an airport fire, the airline has issued a warning that certain flights have been canceled.

After some flights had to be canceled due to an airport fire, Jet2 has issued a caution to UK tourists going to Italy.

The low-cost carrier has stated that due to a fire that started over the weekend in the terminal building, Catalina Airport in Sicily is anticipated to be closed "for a period of time."

Some flights to and from Sicily (Catania) during the coming weeks may be affected as a result of essential repairs that must be made due to the damage caused by the fire.

Jet2 informed customers on Wednesday, July 19, that it had "no choice" but to withdraw and cancel all of its flights to Catania until Thursday, August 3. There will be refunds given to the passengers who were impacted by the cancellations.

"Unfortunately, the fire at Catania Airport has severely damaged the terminal building, significantly affecting operations," the airline stated.

"Despite our best efforts to find alternate transportation options for you to take your well-earned vacation, we are now regrettably forced to rescind and cancel all flights to Catania through Thursday, August 3, 2023 (inclusive).

Although this is out of our control, we would like to sincerely apologize if it pertains to your reservation with us.

"If this change affects you, we will now execute a refund for your trip or flight reservation. To ensure that this reaches your original payment method, please give it up to seven days. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused.

"We will be pleased to assist you if you need help rebooking; just call us at 0800 408 0778. Lines are available from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. (UK local time).

We apologize once more for this adjustment, which is regrettably out of our control, and we appreciate your understanding at this time.

Regarding travelers scheduled to depart from Catania before August 3, Jet2 stated that it has been working diligently to establish alternative arrangements.

The airline will run the return flights from Trapani Airport that were scheduled to depart Catania between July 19 and July 25. Anyone scheduled to fly between these dates will be informed "in due course" with choices by Jet2's operations team, the airline said.

There will be no departures from Catania for the UK on July 26 or August 3. Customers who are impacted will receive information about their reservation and travel choices.

Assuredly, if your booking is for a Jet2.com flight only, notification will be sent to the contact information on your reservation to let you know your alternatives. Our resort team will get in touch with you as soon as possible with information on your updated return flights if you are on a Jet2holiday and are scheduled to return during this time frame.

In order to receive these updates, please make sure your mobile number and contact information are current in Manage My Booking.

As a result of air traffic control (ATC) strikes across Europe this summer, travelers may see further flight disruptions. Flights from major airports like Gatwick are capped as a result of ATC providers limiting flight numbers across Europe due to strikes, staff shortages, and air space closures connected to the conflict in Ukraine.

In a dispute over issues like hiring, management, and rosters, a trade union for Eurocontrol employees is threatening to take industrial action, leaving UK vacationers in serious doubt as to whether their summer vacations will be postponed or canceled. The Times claimed that during strike action, up to 12,600 flights across Europe might be interrupted daily, according to an aviation source.

No precise dates for industrial action have been declared, Eurocontrol stated in a statement after acknowledging receiving the union's letter earlier this month. This merely served as a warning. We are hopeful for a successful outcome as Eurocontrol is currently in contact with USB and all the other trade unions to discuss the matter. Read More
