Great character' and a beautiful calm coastal town make it one of the best in the UK.

One of the top seaside towns in the UK has been named a "beautiful" and "quiet" seaside town. By Which?Travel, the location was ranked seventh best in the UK.

Many Britons are eager to visit the beach and indulge in an ice cream or plate of fish and chips as the UK heats up. The UK's top beach towns were determined by a thorough ranking by Which Travel, a leading source of travel information. But while Bamburgh in Northumberland earned first place, a stunning beach town in Suffolk made the top 10.

Suffolk's popular beach community of Aldeburgh is located just north of the Alde River. The lovely beach there might be the ideal place to unwind this summer.

The town received four stars for its beach and seafront and five stars for its food and drink in Which's ranking.

The words "Alde" and "Burgh," which imply old fort, are the source of the town's name. It was once a Tudor port that Henry VIII elevated to the status of borough.

Tourists won't have to travel far to find fish and chips in the town as it has a pebble beach that is backed by a promenade.

On Tripadvisor, traveller 'De M' wrote: 'Beautiful calm beach with high street nearby for cafes and facilities. great for solo walks and picnics.

Jilly G., a different visitor, said: "Relaxing location to walk and take in the surroundings. The buildings have a lot of charm, and you can eat fresh fish that is caught nearby."

Wonderfully atmospheric, according to "Brian M." Arrive early to take advantage of the atmosphere and solitude.

The Aldeburgh Scallop, a massive sculpture of a scallop shell rising from the shingle, is another attraction for tourists.

Visitors to the area can check out the Aldeburgh Museum or the old Martello Tower.

Which?Skegness and Clacton-on-Sea were among the worst coastal towns in the nation, according to Travel.

While many tourists did still love Clacton's beach, some did criticise it as being "run down."
